Adult Yoga Sundays @ Abundance Studio 10am

Hi Yogis,

It has been a great year so far. I am blessed to have the opportunity to teach yoga, pilates, and dance in New York. Recently I completed an Afro-flow yoga teacher training weekend with the founder Leslie Jones. For 3 months I have assisted classes at Naam Studio and at The Ailey School working with Pilin Anice . I am teaching new adult yoga classes at AbunDance Studio in Brooklyn on Sundays 10am and yoga, pilates, and yogalates on Saturdays at Pratt Institute in October. I attended a kemetic yoga workshop with my teacher Yirser Ra Hotep and exchanged ideas with other certified teachers which was encouraging. Knowing that there are other instructors who are doing what I'm doing helps me when I attempt to set up classes in the tri-state. I attended a holy ceremony a few months ago at the Earth Center School of Kemetic Philosophy. I met some initiates who are taking classes which I hope to do also. I had the chance to speak with priests in Ouagadougou about my life. If you're a spiritual person and someone close to you passes away these kind of conversations or spiritual readings strengthen your connection. I was happy to learn that my mother who passed in 03 is always around me trying to help and show that she cares. I often feel alone in NY besides a few friends and teachers its just me. My immediate family is in Michigan.

I have learned a lot from spiritual, holistic, and meditation books. Malidoma Patrice Some's "Of Water and The Spirit" accounts his life growing up as a small boy in Burkina Faso, being taken to a Jesuit mission school for 15 years, and returning to his Dagara Village to be initiated.  "Philosophy Podium" and "Initiate Tales of Ptah by Neb Naba Lamousa founding director of the Earth Center gives insight on the Dogon history and Kemetic culture."Ra Sekhi 1 &2" by Nia Yaa Nebthet founder of the Ra Sekhi Arts Temple of Healing explains basic and intermediate level reiki healing that one can incorporate in personal meditation practice. "Lifting the Veil" and "The Healing Fire of Heaven by Joseph Michael Levry  explains aspects of kundalini yoga and meditation."God is a Brown Girl Too" by Cecilia B. Loving is a great book for meditation and incorporates Christian stories and scriptures from the Bible as well as poetry as words of inspiration.

In order to reach people of different backgrounds and help them to heal through meditation it is important to relate to them. I find that yoga which means to yolk often divides rather than brings people together. Diversity of instructors isn't present and classrooms often reflect those who can afford the luxury of expensive classes in Manhattan and retreats in places such as Hawaii are catered to the wealthy also. I teach classes to reach all and I hope that I can help promote diversity and bring fitness, holistic healing and meditation to schools, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and public places everywhere. This is the goal of Crown Soul Yoga.
